Tools and equipment

Tools and equipment insurance for San Diego plumbers.

A pipe cutter, a drain camera, an auger, and a jetter are the plumber's own property. General liability responds to damage the plumber causes to someone else. It does not, by itself, replace the tools. A tools and equipment policy can be written for that property. Whether it pays to repair or to replace depends on the form that is quoted. The office is at 779 3rd Avenue, Chula Vista.

What to list.

  • Cameras, locators, and jetters, one by one, with what it would cost to replace each.
  • Augers, cutters, and the rest of the hand tools, as a group if the form allows a group.
  • Where the tools sit: in the truck, on the job, or in the shop.

Theft from a locked truck and theft from an open jobsite are both worth naming. This page does not promise that theft, fire, or water damage is covered.

The machine and the trailer are two policies.

The trailer that hauls the jetter is a commercial auto question. The jetter itself is a tools question. List both, and say which is which.

Common questions

Are a plumber's tools already covered by general liability or the truck policy?

Do not assume that. General liability responds to injury or damage the plumber causes to someone else. The truck policy responds to the vehicle. Tools can be quoted on their own policy.

Does tools insurance pay to repair or replace the tools?

That depends on the form that is quoted. This page does not promise repair or replacement.
